Donal Plunkett

Chief Executive Officer

Donal is a founding member of gbet, serving as CTO until 2013 when he became CEO. Donal brings decades of knowledge and experience in developing and operating high performance – high availability online transaction processing systems. He ensures the company delivers fast, flawless, and trusted market trading infrastructure, while growing profitably and operating safely in one of the most demanding technological environments. Donal holds a MBA from University College Dublin and a B.Sc. Computer Science from Dublin City University.

Aidan Clarke

Chief Executive Officer

Aidan joined the gbet/Betdaq group in 2008 and brings 17+ years of experience in Exchange Betting Technology. As CTO, Aidan defines gbet's technology strategy, full-stack design and drives changes across all our product verticals. As comfortable with why, as much as how, he ensures gbet continues to deliver enterprise-level performance. Aidan holds an MSc in Digital Innovation from Smurfit Graduate Business School.

Robert joined gbet in 2013 as a Backend Software Engineer, bringing experience from both multinationals and startups. Now as Director of Engineering, Robert is the single point of technical authority across the organisation. He ensures all initiatives uphold our high standards of integrity, security, and performance. Robert is responsible for solution architecture and documentation. Robert holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin

Yvonne brings over 20 years of experience in software engineering in international markets. She joined gbet in 2004 as a Backend Software Engineer. As Engineering Governance Lead, Yvonne is responsible for the definition, evolution and adherence to best-in-class engineering standards. She oversees consistent, secure, and high-quality practices across teams, to ensure scalable and well-controlled delivery. Yvonne holds a B.Sc. in Computer Applications from DCU, Dublin.

Bernard is ACCA Certified Accountant and has been Financial Controller with gbet since 2016. Between 2013 to 2016, Bernard was Financial Accountant with Ladbrokes and held the same role with Chronicle Bookmakers from 2008 prior to acquisition by Ladbrokes Group now Entain.

Joining gbet in 2004, Ronan now serves as the Director for Cloud & Infrastructure. He oversees the end‑to‑end delivery, reliability, and security of global platforms that support mission‑critical operations. His focus on strong governance, service excellence, and strategic transformation ensures gbet maintains a robust and future‑ready technology landscape. Ronan holds B.Eng. Electronic Engineering, Munster Technological University.

Jimmy joined gbet in 2013. As Process and Compliance Officer, he has created, implemented, and maintained robust policies and operational processes to meet regulatory and industry standards. Jimmy is the key liaison with auditors and regulators. He translates complex regulatory and audit expectations into practical actionable controls. Jimmy holds a B.Sc. Information Systems, Trinity College Dublin, a Diploma in Management, IMI, Sandyford, is a PRINCE2 Practitioner and PMIPMP certified.

Sean joined gbet in 2014. As Director of Production Operations, he is responsible for the stability, performance, and reliability of our platforms across UK, Europe, and US. He leads multidisciplinary teams that monitor, support, and maintain our systems. Stewardship fundamental to excel under demanding 24/7 real-time conditions and ensure our industry leading levels of uptime and performance. Sean holds a B.Sc. in Computer Applications and Software Engineering from Dublin City University.

Lukas specialises in designing and implementing high performance, high throughout, high availability systems. He joined gbet in 2019 and owns gbet’s most critical system components. Lukas is passionate about delivering stable, high-performance code with strong observability and ensuring our codebase is high quality and free of technical debt. Lukas holds a B.Sc.(Honours) in Games Development from Dundalk Institute of Technology.

BETDAQ

BETDAQ was founded in 2000 by Irish businessman Dermot Desmond and began trading in 2001. Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland it is best known for operating one of the world’s largest online sports betting exchanges. BETDAQ operates a peer-to-peer exchange where customer users can back or lay / buy or sell orders against each other rather than betting against a bookmaker — a model similar to financial exchanges and prediction markets but for sports outcomes.

BETDAQ is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission and operates in regulated jurisdictions globally.

GameDayMatch

GameDayMatch (“GDM”) is a partnership between gbet and Bill Hogwood to provide Wagering Games on Sports to US operators. The GDM Match4 wager is developed for sports fans and recreational players in an intuitive and simple wagering format. It is patented under Patent USPTO (11,875,423)GDM and gbet are licensed in New Jersey and Pennsylvania

Racecourse Data Technologies

gbet provide a full bookmaking system which is used by over 300 oncourse bookmakers in UK and Ireland. The system uses the gbet API suite to create and manage events, to track BETDAQ’s Exchange pricing in real time and to hedge positions or ‘green up’ their field book by trading into the BETDAQ Exchange.

The system architecture supports a Master role controlling pricing and risk etc for a network of slave pitches on the racecourse and the bookmaker can remotely administer and operate his pitches on course.

The systems supports all the necessary peripherals for bookmaking including purpose built keyboard, LCB boards, NFC card payments, ticketscanners etc.

Trading Products

BETDAQ provides the gbet API Suite to approved 3^rd parties who have developed trading applications for BETDAQ customers, typically on a subscription basis. They are windows client applications which provide alternative UIs with custom features to place orders, faster, more effectively and with much more complexity than a conventional web site interface.
